How to get to Fraser Island Retreat and Happy Valley
Fraser Island Retreat is ideally located in Happy Valley which is on the eastern (ocean) side of Queensland’s beautiful Fraser Island (the world’s largest sand island). Only 60km from the southern tip of the island and just 200m back from the beach, with central access to inland tracks and major scenic destinations.
To access Fraser Island you will need a reliable, high clearance, 4WD vehicle as you must drive along the beach (travel at low tide for the easiest trip) and inland sand tracks. Always try to travel on the beach close to the low tide for the easiest, safest and most enjoyable trip.
You can reach Fraser Island via barge from Inskip Point (east of Gympie) or River Heads (east of Maryborough). The barge to Inskip Point will provide you with the most straight forward journey to Happy Valley along 75 Mile Beach, however there are many other 4WD tracks leading around Fraser Island if you want to take the scenic route.
After leaving the barge at Hook Point, head east along the beach around the point, or if the tide is too high use the Hook Point inland road, to the eastern side. Once you are on 75 Mile Beach enjoy the drive (about 1 hour on a low tide beach) to Happy Valley which is well signed and easy to access from the beach.
